A note on the colors in this collection--

I've been walking through our neighborhood this spring, back and forth from school and onto the forest trail nearby, and looking at all the brand new leaves arriving on the branches. Each tiny one a newborn in the world, already making it's way, reaching for the sustenance of the light and the soil, giving space to those around them but still working in community with each other.

In the beginning of their lives, the maple leaves have such a fresh, bright yellow-chartreuse color that I only notice this time of year. So fleeting, like all of childhood. The color elements of these paintings are inspired by the newborn maple leaves that have just arrived all around us.
